We Care Food Pantry
The We Care Food Pantry began 25 years ago and distributes groceries to families in the Wilkinsburg Community. The food pantry is supported by donations from the church and through participation in the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

One of only a few food pantries serving people during the evening, we have been experiencing rapid growth over the past two years. We serve about 100 people on Wednesday evenings and about 20 people through emergency assistance.

Ending hunger in Wilkinsburg is a serious issue. In southwestern Pennsylvania, more than 285,000 people live below the poverty line. We are seeing a rising number of women with young children, as well as people who are working, but unable to make ends meet.

For as much as we are doing, it is still not enough. Second U.P. spends between $900 and $1,100 per month on food and we are not able to meet the increasing need. We are eager to expand our food pantry, help more people grow their own food, and provide family support to teach people about the wise use of resources available to them.

We are calling upon you to get involved. We need:
★ your financial support to purchase food
★ your volunteer hours to pack,
and distribute grocery items.
